Auburn Gear Mini-Spool Installation Instructions

The Auburn Gear mini-spools are designed to be “c” lock compatible, but there are certain applications where “c” lock eliminator kits must be used. Any ring and pinion ratio that does not allow the differential cross pin to be completely removed (due to ring gear thickness) must use a “c” lock eliminator kit. For safety reasons, Auburn Gear highly recommends the use of “c” lock eliminator kits which will retain the axle shaft in the event of axle failure. The Auburn Gear mini-spool replaces the differential side gears and pinion gears of the stock open differential with a device that couples both axle shafts together allowing maximum torque to both wheels.

Under certain conditions, customers may experience a M.I.L. “ON” condition with DTC P0011, P0012, or P0016 stored in the Engine Control Module/ECM (SAE term: Powertrain Control Module/PCM). In some cases, the cause of this DTC may be the VVT–i actuator. Use the procedures in this bulletin to verify the operation of the actuator and correct the condition.

2002 Toyota Tacoma System too Lean (Fuel Trim) Engine Diagnostics

Fuel trim is related to the feedback compensation value, not to the basic injection time. Fuel trim includes short–term fuel trim and long–term fuel trim. Short–term fuel trim is the short–term fuel compensation used to maintain the air–fuel ratio at its ideal theoretical value. The signal from the A/F sensor is approximately proportional to the existing air–fuel ratio, and ECM compares it with the ideal theoretical value, the ECM reduces fuel volume immediately if the air–fuel ratio is RICH and increases fuel volume if it is LEAN. Long–term fuel trim compensates for the deviation from the central value of the short–term fuel trim stored by each engine tolerance, and the deviation from the central value due to the passage of time and changes of environment. If both the short–term fuel trim and long–term fuel trim exceed a certain value, it is detected as a malfunction and the MIL lights up.

Squealing / Squeaking Noises From Area of Rack-And-Pinion When Steering in Both
Directions
If you receive customer reports in the above model vehicles of squealing or squeaking
noises when steering in both directions when the engine is warm, the cause may be due
to insufficient lubrication at the radial shaft sealing ring in the control head.
Note :The additive Lubrizol 6178 must only used up to a certain steering gear serial
number (see list). This restriction applies to models 203120912111220 without ABC. The
additive must no longer be used as of steering gear serial number stated below. If the
additive Lubrizol 6178 is poured into a steering gear after the steering gear serial
number stated below, damage to the steering gear is possible.

Transfer case can be identified by an I.D. tag, located on rear case. I.D. tag provides model number, serial number and low range ratio. Date of manufacture is the serial number (I.D. number). This information is necessary when ordering parts. Model 242 transfer case is a chain-driven, 2-piece aluminum case, with full time operation. Torque input in 4WD high and low range is undifferentiated.

Removal Procedure
1. Raise the window. If the window motor is inoperable, remove the window to gain access to the window motor retaining screws. Refer to Front Side Door Window Replacement.
2. Remove the power window module.
3. With the window regulator on the bench, remove fasteners one (1) and two (2) which will disconnect the drive housing and motor (4) from the rail (5) motor slides out of the gear/spool, hold the gear/spool into the housing with your fingers. The spool will unwind if it comes out of the housing.
4. Holding the motor and housing together, remove fastener three (3).
5. Slide the motor partially out of the gear/spool allowing finger access to the gear spool (6). Hold the gear/spool into the housing and remove the motor (7).

Operation 1. Manual steering gear A. A mechanical means of steering control. 1. The steering wheel turns a shaft attached to the input shaft, which turns a spiral worm gear. The spiral worm gear turns an output shaft, which horizontally moves the pitman arm, drag link and steering arms, turning the front wheels. 2. Manual steering gear with valve-in-linkage assist. A. A mechanical means of steering with a hydraulic control valve and a cylinder. 1. The hydraulic control valve is installed in the vehicle drag link. 2. Turning effort applied to the steering wheel actuates the valve, which, in turn, directs hydraulic fluid from the pump to the power cylinder located in the steering linkage. 3. AIM has developed special applications for many of the most common ECUs: by special applications we mean user-friendly systems which allow to easily connect your ECU to our hi-tech data loggers: user needs only to install harness between the logger and the ECU. Once connected, the logger displays (and/or records, depending on the logger and on the ECU data stream) values like RPM, engine load, throttle position (TPS), air and water temperatures, battery voltage, speed, gear, lambda value (air/fuel ratio), analog channels..
