Honda Safety Recall: Ignition Switch

Electrical contacts in the ignition switch can wear prematurely due to high electrical current passing through the switch. Worn out ignition contacts could cause the engine to stall without warning. Although the engine will restart in most cases, a vehicle that stalls while driving increases the risk of a crash.

REMOVAL 1. Disconnect battery ground cable. 2. Remove four or five steering column shroud attaching screws, then the shroud. 3. Remove tilt lever, if equipped. 4. Remove instrument panel lower steering column cover. 5. Disconnect ignition switch electrical connector. 6. Place lock cylinder in RUN position, then remove two ignition switch attaching screws. 7. Disengage ignition switch from actuator pin.

2001 ENGINE PERFORMANCE’ ‘Basic Diagnostic Procedures Ignition Coil Test (Accord 2.3L & CR-V)
1. Turn ignition off. Remove distributor cap, rotor and leak cover. Remove primary leads from ignition coil. Using an ohmmeter, check primary resistance between ignition coil terminals “A+” and “B-”. See Fig. 12 . Resistance should be as specified. See IGNITION COIL RESISTANCE table. 2. Check secondary resistance between ignition coil terminal “A+” and secondary output terminal (ignition coil tower). See IGNITION COIL RESISTANCE table. If readings are not as specified, replace ignition coil.

You must use the Black key to complete the programming procedure. Programming : Keep the programming button pressed down while inserting the wire harness into connector of the HONDA-DA. Release the programming button once the LED turn ON. Turn the Ignition to the ON position. The number of LED flashes indicates the mode. (I.e. Mode 1 = 1 Flash) Press the programming button to switch between modes 1, 2 and 3. (Mode 3 is future use) Once the mode is selected, turn the ignition key to OFF position. Turn the IGNITION key to the ON position once again. The LED will illuminate. The module is now programmed. Turn the key to the OFF position and remove it, start the vehicle using the remote starter to insure functionality.
