2008 Ford Leads Child Crash Test Dummy

Ford developed the more lifelike abdomen in conjunction with Dearborn-based STR Systems, a safety technology and research firm; The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia; Wayne State University in Detroit; the University of Virginia; and Takata Corporation, a global manufacturer of automotive safety systems.
The prototype pediatric abdomen insert is similar in size and shape to that of a 6-year-old child and is made of multiple layers of liquid silicone that, when solidified, forms a tough silicone shell. Inside is a set of electrodes immersed in a conductive fluid that comprise the sensors for the abdomen – six electrodes at the front of the abdomen and one reference electrode at the back.

2009 Ford F-150 Adds ‘K-Bag’ Air Bags

The all-new 2009 Ford F-150 – which features an exclusive air bag technology – provides better side-impact crash safety than the Chevrolet Silverado, Dodge Ram and Nissan Titan, according to a new study by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.

For 2008, the IIHS added the Audi A3 to the list of Audi models designated as “Top Safety Pick” in the Midsize category. 2007 “Top Safety Pick” winners A4 and A6 continued into 2008 in the Midsize and Large car category, respectively. Audi is the only German luxury auto manufacturer with the distinction of having three models listed as a “Top Safety Pick.” To achieve this distinction, vehicles must receive a top rating of “Good” for passenger protection in off-set frontal, side, and rear crash tests. In addition, IIHS vehicle test now include occupant safety measures and crash prevention criterion. Vehicles must have an available electronic stability program, which Audi has standard on every model it produces.

MSA is announcing several changes to the instructions for the MMR Firehawk, MMR 1/4 Turn, and BMR Air Masks as they relate to the air mask flow test frequency and the maintenance of the Audi-Larm Audible Alarm. The major changes are as follows:
• The flow test frequency for all air masks is changed to every year in accordance with the NFPA 1852 requirement for an annual flow test.
• A new Audi-Larm Tester was developed and must be used to evaluate the Audi-Larm at each flow test.
• Prior to testing the Audi-Larm, all actions required by previously issued field notices must be verified as completed.
