Ball Joint Failure Due to Improper Installation
PROBLEM : Improper installation alignment can lead to early component failure Press-in ball joints on some late-model vehicles are now designed with an elliptical stud opening. Failure to properly align the ball joint in the control arm during installation could result in loss of vehicle control due to ball joint failure. If an elliptical joint is pressed into the control arm without regard to orientation, it is possible that normal vertical suspension movement will cause the ball joint stud to contact the housing, resulting in stud and/or housing failure. Elliptical openings are not visible on ball joints with preinstalled boots.

2008 Chevrolet Aveo Penny Edition
Credit-crunched Londoners grabbed pocketfuls of pennies today at the launch of a 20-foot billboard advert made entirely from one-pence coins. The unique installation – made using over 20,000 pennies – only lasted 30 minutes as hundreds of opportunistic passers-by seized their moment to pick up a penny or two.
The penny billboard was unveiled in London’s New Oxford Street to advertise the 769,500-pence starting price of the new Chevrolet Aveo.

The most significant features of this completely reworked model are its striking exterior, its high-class interior and a new, even more efficient petrol engine. Like its notchback stable mate, the new hatchback model will now bear the Aveo name throughout Europe.
The Aveo hatchback sports Chevrolet’s new design features, as characterised by the big horizontally split radiator grille with a body-coloured crossbeam and the brand logo sitting prominently in the center. The dynamic detailing includes large, curved, clear-glass headlamps and fog lamps that project like spotlights from the lower part of the bumper. In profile, the body’s prominent shoulder lines catch the eye, while the back of the car is dominated by the solid bumper and the round tail lamps in a clear-glass housing.
There is a choice of two petrol engines: a new 1.2-litre unit with an output of 84 hp , and the existing 1.4-litre engine, which now develops 98 hp and is available with automatic transmission.

1. Place the vehicle on a level surface. Prior to beginning, record ride height on each side of the vehicle by measuring from the center of the spindle to a consistent point on the wheel well. Record these measurements for future reference.
2. Put the transmission in Park or 1st gear (manual transmissions) and chock the rear tires.
3. Raise the front of the vehicle using a jack. Raise it enough to completely unload the front suspension. Place a jack stand under each frame rail just behind the lower control arms for the front suspension. Ease the frame down on to the stands, but leave a slight load on the jack as a safety precaution.

Location: driver’s side engine compartment.
1. Disconnect negative side of battery (as illustrated in hints). Remove the plastic cover over positive terminal and disconnect positive side of the battery. Figure 6
2. Remove (2) two 10mm bolts securing fuse box and (1) one 10mm bolt securing power steering fluid reservioir to battery tray. Figure 6
3. Loosen (2) two 10mm nuts retaining the battery placement bar and remove. Remove battery. Remove (4) 12mm bolts from battery tray and remove tray from vehicle. Figure 7

2004 Chevy Silverado 1500 AMSOIL BMK-13 Installation
Rough measurements revealed the engine compartment of this 2004 Silverado was just too cramped to cleanly fit the BMK- 13 filter mount with EaO-15 and EaBP-90 Filters. I located a suitable vertical underbody “lip”, inside the frame on the dri- ver’s side, back by the ABS EBCM/Hydraulic manifold (see photos). Before ordering the kit I pre-measured, and figured about a five-foot hose run from the spin-on filter adaptor to the chosen filter mount location and ordered extra hose. I used a BK-11 90-degree fitting kit for the hose to spin-on filter adaptor connection (see photos). I ended up using about 4′ 8″ of hose for each line, so eight feet might do the job with a little tighter routing.
