2005 Saab 9-2X Linear Timing Belt Removal and Installation
Removal 1. Disconnect negative battery cable. 2. Remove accessory drive belt cover. See Fig. 1 . Remove accessory drive belts. 3. Hold crankshaft pulley stationary, and remove crankshaft pulley center bolt. Remove crankshaft pulley. Remove timing belt covers. 4. Turn crankshaft to align crankshaft and camshaft timing notches with marks on rear timing cover and engine block. See Fig. 2 and Fig. 3 . On manual transmission models, remove timing belt guide from top of crankshaft pulley. 5. On all models, if reusing old belt, use White paint to mark timing belt in relation to sprocket timing marks. See Fig. 4 . Also mark timing belt direction of travel. Count number of teeth between marks. For correct count, see INSTALLATION MARK MEASUREMENT SPECIFICATIONS table. 6. Remove No. 2 timing belt idler pulley. Remove timing belt. Remove timing belt automatic tensioner with rod facing up.

Removal
1. Loosen the water pump pulley set bolts.
2. Remove the drive belt adjusting bolt, and remove the drive belt.
3. Remove the water pump pulley from the water pump.
4. Remove the crankshaft pulley set bolt.
5. Using SST (09213-31021), remove the crankshaft pulley.
6. Remove the timing chain cover bolts and nuts as shown in the figure.

Removal
1. Grasp the spark plug boot firmly and with a twisting pulling motion, disconnect the spark plug wires from the spark plugs.
2. NOTE: If an original spark plug is reused, install it in the cylinder from which it was removed. New spark plugs can be used in any cylinder. NOTE: Use compressed air to remove any foreign material from the spark plug well before removing the spark plugs. Remove the spark plugs.

1. Remove left front and left side splash shields. Using engine hoist, lift engine just enough to remove weight from engine mounts. Remove drive belts. Remove A/C tensioner pulley and bracket. Remove engine mount bracket bolts in sequence. Lubricate reamer bolt with penetrating oil before and during removal. See Fig. 7 . Remove power steering pump, leaving hoses attached. 2. Remove engine support bracket. Remove crankshaft pulley. Remove timing belt covers. Remove flange from crankshaft. See Fig. 8 . Rotate crankshaft to align all timing marks. See Fig. 9 . Loosen belt tensioner bolt, and rotate belt tensioner counterclockwise to release belt tension. 3. If reusing timing belt, mark belt to indicate direction of belt rotation. Loosen tensioner bolt. Pry tensioner counterclockwise to relieve belt tension. While holding tensioner, tighten tensioner bolt. Remove timing belt.

1993 Ford Probe Timing Belt Removal & Installation
This application is an interference engine used for 1993 FORD Probe 2.5L V6. Do not rotate camshaft or crankshaft when timing belt is removed, or engine damage may occur.
1. Disconnect negative battery cable. Disconnect engine coolant temperature sensor and temperature gauge sender connectors from coolant elbow. Disconnect crankshaft position sensor connector. See Fig. 1 . Remove accessory drive belts. Raise and support vehicle.
2. Remove A/C belt tensioner bracket. Remove crankshaft damper bolt using Crankshaft Pulley Holder (T92C-6316-AH) or equivalent. Remove crankshaft damper. Remove 2 timing belt cover bolts from behind crankshaft damper. Remove timing belt cover lower bolts. Using Power Steering Pump Pulley Remover (D85L-6000-A) or equivalent, remove power steering pump pulley.

Removal
1. Remove all drive belts. Remove crankshaft pulley and water pump pulley. Remove upper and lower timing belt covers, noting bolt lengths and locations.
2. Turn crankshaft clockwise and align timing marks so No. 1 cylinder is at TDC. Timing marks on camshaft sprockets should be aligned at upper surface of cylinder head. See Fig. 1 . Camshaft sprocket dowel pins should face upward.
CAUTION: DO NOT rotate crankshaft counterclockwise (as viewed from timing belt end of engine). If reusing timing belt, mark direction of belt rotation before removing.
