1. Align the timing mark on the timing belt pulley and camshaft pulley with the marks.

2005 Saab 9-2X Linear Timing Belt Removal and Installation
Removal 1. Disconnect negative battery cable. 2. Remove accessory drive belt cover. See Fig. 1 . Remove accessory drive belts. 3. Hold crankshaft pulley stationary, and remove crankshaft pulley center bolt. Remove crankshaft pulley. Remove timing belt covers. 4. Turn crankshaft to align crankshaft and camshaft timing notches with marks on rear timing cover and engine block. See Fig. 2 and Fig. 3 . On manual transmission models, remove timing belt guide from top of crankshaft pulley. 5. On all models, if reusing old belt, use White paint to mark timing belt in relation to sprocket timing marks. Remove No. 2 timing belt idler pulley. Remove timing belt. Remove timing belt automatic tensioner with rod facing up.

Removal (1980-95) 1. Disconnect negative battery cable. Rotate crankshaft counterclockwise until No. 1 cylinder is at TDC of compression stroke. Remove splash shield. Remove power steering pump, leaving hoses attached. Remove A/C belt idler pulley bracket and belt. Remove alternator belt. Remove power steering pump bracket. 2. This application is an interference engine. Do not rotate camshaft or crankshaft when timing belt is removed, or engine damage may occur. 1. Disconnect negative battery cable. Remove engine cover. Using 16-mm spanner wrench, rotate serpentine belt tension arm clockwise about 14 degrees to relieve belt tension. Remove serpentine drive belt.
