Since the 1986 model year, GM has used the Pass Key system as an anti-theft device. It started using this system on the 1986 Corvette, and in 1988 added this system to the Camaro and Firebird models. 2. Remove the turn signal switch. It is not necessary to completely remove the switch from the column. Pull the switch rearward far enough to slip it over the end of the shaft, but do not pull the harness out of the column.

Disabling Procedure
Important: Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling Zones on page 2-81 before disabling the SIR system.
1. Turn the steering wheel until the vehicle’s wheels are pointing straight ahead.
2. Turn OFF the ignition.
3. Remove the key from the ignition.
Important: With the SIR fuse removed and the ignition ON, the AIR BAG indicator illuminates. This is normal operation and does not indicate an SIR system malfunction.

Wire Harness Routing Precaution
Disconnect the connectors and terminals by holding them. Do not pull the harness to disconnect the connector.
Do not pull the harness with force. it will damage the har ness.
Cut off the excess of the wire ties.
Connect the connectors and terminals securely until they lock.
Reinstall the connectors to the corresponding stays whenever they are removed. After operation, check that the connectors are installed on the stays securely and not loose or come out of the stays.
