The all-new 2008 Chevrolet Malibu Hybrid will join baseball’s other stars as it makes its world debut in the All-Star Fan Zone today. The Malibu Hybrid’s appearance continues through the last out of one of MLB’s highlights of the year. Thanks to an affordable hybrid powertrain option, the all-new 2008 Chevrolet Malibu Hybrid not only will be the most refined new midsize sedan in the neighborhood, but one of the most fuel-efficient, as well. Powered by the GM Hybrid System, the first-ever Malibu Hybrid delivers an EPA rating of 24 mpg city and 32 mpg highway – a two-mpg increase over the non-hybrid four-cylinder model – and will be Chevrolet value-priced, offering customers an affordable hybrid choice.
Chevrolet’s popular, award-winning 2008 Malibu offers an expanded range of customer choices this spring, with an efficient four-cylinder/six-speed automatic combination offered on LTZ models. A 2.4L Ecotec engine is partnered with a 6T40 transmission to deliver a great balance of performance and fuel efficiency. The EPA-estimated fuel economy for this combination is 22 mpg in the city and 32 on the highway.
All Malibus are equipped with a long list of standard features, including six air bags (dual-stage frontal, seat-mounted side-impact thorax and head-curtain side air bags); four-wheel anti-lock disc brakes with all-speed traction control; OnStar Gen 7 safety and security system withTurn-by-Turn Navigation; air conditioning; and XM Satellite Radio .
Along with the LS and Hybrid, the Malibu lineup includes the 1LT and 2LT trim levels and the top-of-the-line LTZ. MSRP for the 1LT is $20,955; 2LT, $22,635 and the LTZ, $26,995. All include the $650 destination charge.
Some customers of 1999-2000 Chevrolet Malibu, Oldsmobile Alero, Pontiac Grand Am, and 1999 Oldsmobile Cutlass may have turn signal/hazard flashers that become inoperative.
The following procedure provides instructions for replacing the hazard warning switch located in the instrument panel (I/P). For additional information, refer to the Lighting subsection in the Body and Accessories section of the appropriate Service Manual or SI.
Remove the dashboard panel and small glove box from around the driver’s pedals and below the steering column – four Philips screws to remove the driver’s glove box, one plastic push pin rivet, one Philips screw and the clutch pedal stop screw to remove the main panel. Remove the cover under and below the steering wheel/column. Two push pin rivets – push in the centre pins, they will fall loose, then pull downwards on the cover, it needs a bit of force to come free as there are plastic tabs holding the column surround together just behind the wheel. This will expose most of the area behind the lower driver’s dash, the ignition wiring loom and its switch terminals.
The engine does not start, and the immobilizer indicator is blinking (especially if the battery recently went dead and the engine was jump-started).
The immobilizer IMOES code has been erased.
NOTE: This problem occurs only if all these conditions are met: • The security system is set. • The battery goes dead. • Battery power is connected to the vehicle, then disconnected in a very short period of time (milliseconds).
If the vehicle meets these conditions, or if the condition is unknown, go to DIAGNOSIS.
Some vehicles (mazda rx-8) may experience difficulty starting (cranks no start). This may occur after driving the vehicle a
short distance without engine reaching normal operating temperature. Examples: starting a vehicle and moving
it to wash it, engine stall due to mis-application of clutch then restart. This commonly occurs at port facilities or
dealer lots where vehicles are frequently started cold, moved for short distances and then turned off. This concern may also occur due to low cranking RPM during engine starting.
This instructional manual will discuss the installation of the hood switch harness & XBM (Remote Start) turn-on. Other steps will include replacement procedure of the WIN, antenna installation, hood switch installation, and uploading of vehicle configuration from Dealer Connect. Refer to the vehicle Service Manual for specific installation procedures for all components except the hood switch harness, which is covered here in detail.
