2009 Volkswagen Scirocco Defined
The countdown is running for the new era Scirocco: the third generation of the sports car will already be arriving on the market in August. Volkswagen is staging the comeback of a legend with the debut of the two-door car – Scirocco generations I and II wrote history as the most successful Volkswagen coupé of all time with about 800,000 units sold.

Cult status. In particular, it is the original Scirocco presented in 1974 that has long held cult status. Because, in contrast to many of its competitors of that time, the Scirocco – designed by Giorgio Giugiaro – was an affordable car with everyday utility, and front-wheel drive also made it a safe sports car for use every day of the year.

2008 Volkswagen Scirocco GT24 Debut
The Scirocco GT24 concept is a sister vehicle to the race cars which not only won their class at the recent Nürburgring 24 hour race but also finished 11th overall out of over 200 starters among far more exotic machinery. Sharing the same drivetrain, carbon panels and 325 PS 2.0-litre TSI engine the Scirocco GT24 adds a series of detail changes to the interior including leather bucket seats and a rear-facing camera to record the expression on the passenger’s face as the car races up the notorious Goodwood Hill.

Making a total of six runs up the hill over the three days, The Festival of Speed marks the first time the Scirocco GT24 has been driven in the UK.

Like its predecessors, the new VW Scirocco is once again becoming an object of great fascination for car tuners. For the 200hp and 2 litre gasoline engine, various performance optimisations are available – from 240hp to 350hp. In the top version, the maximum torque takes a giant leap from 280 to 480 newton metres. The gained performance is achieved by the interaction between the engine electronics and a stainless steel exhaust system, a Sportec turbocharger, a charge-air intercooler and the modified fuel system.
