Volkswagen Cabriolet How-to Adjusting CIS Air/Fuel Mixture & Idle
Start with a complete tune up (if not recently conducted):
• Replace ignition components: spark plugs, cap, rotor, wires (use Bosch ignition parts and use only W7DC or W7DTC plugs)
• Replace air and fuel filters
• Replace injector seals and idle screw O-ring
• Tighten the injector holders; replace the injector holders if needed
• Check for vacuum leaks using carburetor cleaner (spray around hoses, gaskets, injector O-rings); if idle goes up,
leak found (replace faulty part — use a bit of RTV when replacing gaskets)

Step 1: Here’s an overview picture of the transverse 1.8T engine found in the Audi TT, VW Golf/Jetta/New Beetle 1.8T. The 225hp TT engine looks a little different, but the install of the A.W.E. Tuning valve is the same procedure. For picture clarity, and ease of install, the decorative engine cover has been removed. Removing the cover is easily done by twisting the “+” shaped fasteners on the cover 90 degrees. They’ll pop up when free, allowing you to grab the cover and lift it up and out of the engine bay. (New Beetle requires removing 2 10mm nuts hidden under trim caps, and then sliding forward and out) We’ve also removed the PCV damper in the following pictures for clarity. You won’t need to remove this item to install the valve.

Removal
1. Release fuel system pressure. Disconnect battery and drain cooling system. Disconnect vacuum and
coolant lines attached to intake manifold and label accordingly. Remove throttle linkage. Remove

2. Disconnect fuel line and components that interfere with removal. Remove intake manifold bolts using
removal sequence. See Fig. 2 . Remove intake manifold and fuel injector fuel lines as an assembly.

TIMING BELT for VOLKSWAGEN’ ‘1.8L 4-Cylinder – New Beetle – APH, AWP & AWV Engines Removal 1. Remove engine cover. Remove noise insulation pan from under engine compartment. 2. Remove air duct pipe between turbocharger and charge air cooler. See Fig. 1 . Air duct pipe is located along bottom right of cross member. 3. Mark rotation direction of serpentine drive belt. Move serpentine drive belt tensioner as shown to release tension on belt. See Fig. 2 . Secure tensioner using a drift, about .18″ (4.5 mm) x 2.2″ (55 mm). See Fig. 3 . Remove serpentine drive belt. 2007-2008 BMW E82/88 135i Intake kit Installation Instructions
Step 1: Complete Stock Intake.
Step 2: Disconnect vacuum line and pull back.
Step 3: Unclip upper half of air box to remove lid and filter.
Step 4: Pull back rubber mount attached to battery cable. Use pliers if necessary. This will allow stock clamp to be loosened. (To be done in step 5B.)
Step 5: A) Loosen clamp closest to the radiator with 1/4” nut driver. B) Loosen clamp closest to fire wall with 1/4” nut driver. Leave clamps in position.

Step 1- Remove motor cover
This is the small triangular cover in the front of the engine where the dipstick is located (figure 1). Just twist the two screws 90 degrees counterclockwise. Then lift up the cover. The cover fits onto a rubber round mount at the point on the “triangle” as well. It’s just pressed on there.
