Upgrading 1966 Ford MUstang In Total Control
If you have been following the progression on our Project Street Fighter ‘66 Mustang, you know we’re building this pony to be a corner carver that’s competitive with late-model sports cars. We’re giving it an old-school Trans-Am style with modern performance goodies under its skin. This Mustang isn’t meant to be a smooth fairgrounds cruiser, but a built-tough race car that’s legal for the street. Last month, we installed Total Control Products four-ba coilover rear suspension using a Chassisworks FAB9 rearend. The installation went surprisingly well, and it involved converting the original leaf-spring 8-inch Ford rearend to a tubular control arm, coilover 9-inch. There was some welding involved, but it was ridiculously easy. The front suspension went in just as smoothly. We’ve all heard the phrase “bolt-in” or “direct-fit,” but we’ve grown weary from past experience of putting too much faith in those words. So far, the suspension assemblies from TCP, a Chassisworks company, adhere to their promise of easy installation.

2007 Porsche 911 GT3 RS

With effect from October, Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG of Stuttgart, Germany, will be launching the new 911 GT3 RS on the European market. This purist variant of the GT3 is particularly suited for use on the track. The GT3 RS is distinguished by its performance capability and the unadulterated driving experience enjoyed with a racing car, but also meets all requirements for road-legal sports cars.
The exceptionally meaty engine boasts a displacement of 3.6 liters to generate 305 kW (415 bhp) at 7,600 rpm. Maximum revs are reached at 8,400 rpm. The power output per liter of engine capacity is 115.3 bhp. These figures correspond to the present GT3. But the RS puts in an even better performance. Thanks to a close-ratio six-speed transmission with a single-mass flywheel and the 20 kg lower vehicle weight, the engine revs up even more freely, thus enabling the 911 GT3 to sprint from zero to 100 km per hour in 4.2 seconds. That’s one tenth of a second faster than the GT3. It takes just 13.3 seconds to hit to 200 km per hour. Maximum speed is 310 km per hour.

2007 Mercedes Benz SLR McLaren Carbon Fibre

In the 1950s, the Mercedes-Benz SLR acquired a hallowed status in the world of motor racing. Quite apart from its long list of legendary race victories, its avant-garde technology and thrilling design instantly transformed it into a blueprint for all high-calibre Gran Turismo touring cars. The new Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren Roadster, which will be receiving its world premiere in autumn 2007, is likewise rife with charisma and technology that is ahead of its time. Just like today’s Formula 1 racing cars, the Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren Roadster boasts a carbon-fibre construction that gives it very high levels of safety and exceptional torsional stiffness on a par with the Coupé version. This combines with a chassis with motorsport origins to produce outstanding handling characteristics. The 460-kW/626-hp AMG supercharged V8 engine under the bonnet of the new high-performance sports car propels it to a top speed of 332 km/h, matching the outstanding mark set by the Coupé. Despite the fact that the Roadster comes with a fully retractable soft top to fuse pure open-air driving bliss with the ultimate in performance, by no means do its occupants have to compromise on comfort or everyday practicality. The new Roadster thereby succeeds in taking driving culture and motoring pleasure into a whole new dimension for open-top super sports cars.
